F.A. Belcher letter, 1863 Apr. 18.

The letter to Belcher's mother and brother was written from Brashear City (now Morgan City), Saint Mary Parish, Louisiana. It remarks on fighting in the area, on the death of "Matthew," and on General Nathaniel P. Banks's practice of remaining with his troops during battle.

Francis A. Belcher was a soldier in the 4th Massachusetts Infantry, Company D. The regiment was organized at Camp Joe Hooker, Lakeville, Mass., and mustered in on September 12, 1862.
